The Eternal Security of the Believer

The bible does not use the phrase "Eternal Security" or "Eternal Security of the Believer"; so we do not promote these terms as if they represented scripturally sound doctrinal beliefs - especially as they are commonly understood. However, we do understand the meaning of English words and we concede that these terms are scripturally valid, if taught in accordance with the actual meaning of the words. Therefore, at the Berean Research Institute, we unapologetically declare that we believe in the Eternal Security of the Believer.
As we have stated many times: words have meaning. If the words are changed, then the meaning changes. This is one of the reasons why we, at the Berean Research Institute, hold to the authorized King James Bible as our final authority, and why we apply the rules of plain English in determining the meaning of its passages.
Consequently, when we claim that we believe in the Eternal Security of the Believer, we believe exactly those words - which is exactly what the bible teaches regarding the everlasting nature of the gift of Life offered by God to all (whosoever) who believeth on him.
What we DON'T believe is the nonsense that most people claim regarding the Eternal Security of the Believer. Most people claim that once a person has made a sincere profession of faith, he is "saved" and eternally secure from that time forward (once saved, alway saved; or once saved, always persevering, in his Christian life) regardless of whether he changes his mind and subsequently ceases to believe. This is a dishonest use of the English language to promote a false doctrine, and a false gospel.
A "believer" is a "believer".
The bible is clear in Revelation 21:8 that those who are "unbelieving" shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone, along with others - including the murderers, whoremongers, and liars.
We believe in the eternal security of the "believer"; not in the eternal security of the "unbeliever", and not in the eternal security of the "former believer".
Please join with us in demanding honesty from those who teach doctrines from the scriptures. A person need not go further than John 3:16 to find the truth in this matter - everlasting life is offered freely to whosoever "believeth", not to whosoever "used to believe" nor whosoever "made a profession of faith, at one time".
